Schuettke dies after
A Shelton man was dead and
another was booked into Mason
County Jail following a bizarre
pipe-bomb accident on the side of
Highway 101 near Lilliwaup just
after 3 am. Sunday.
The victim of what the sher-
iff's department called a pipe
bomb, Roger E. Schuettke, 21, of
Shelton, died within minutes of
the explosion of the device on a
hillside below the roadway,
which was blocked by a mudslide
and fallen trees
Officers responding to the call
\ initially thought Schuettke was
i the victim of a traffic accident at
the site of the slide just north of
Char Lane near Colony Surf

County Coroner Martha Reed
said Tuesday, had hit the trees.
REED CALLED the death an
accident. According to her
report, Schuettke died from a
chest injury that caused bleeding
within the pericardial liningi
He lived long enough to climb up
toward the road from the bank,
Reed said,
Initial reports indicated that
the cause of death was trauma to
the head, according to a press
release issued by the Mason
County Sheriffs Office Sunday.
A sheriff‘s office spokesman,

CHARGES WOULD be filed
in the case, Deputy Prosecutor
Amber Finlay said in court.
Judge Sawyer exonerated bail,
and Travaglione was released
on his personal recognizance
pending further court action.
