Omer L, Dion, a longtime Shel-
ton resident, died of a heart at-
tack Sunday, December 2 at Ma-
son General Hospital He was 82.
Born April 7, 1919 in Seattle to
Omer and Selma (Larsen) Dion,
he served in the US. Army Air
Forces from 1941 to 1945 and was
a technical sergeant at the time of
his discharge.
He married Joyce Marie Frisk
in 1949 in Shelton. Their mar-
riage ended in divorce in 1972.
He worked as a grinderman for
Simpson Timber Company for
some 16 years, retiring in 1984.
Mr. Dion enjoyed fishing with
his children on the Stillwater Riv-
er and caught a record steelbead
(263/4 pounds) on the Chehalis
River, He enjoyed playing cards,
was an avid bowler and walker,
and played football and baseball.
He also enjoyed his family, hunt-
ing and music, especially rock ’n’
roll, family members said,
His memberships included the
American Legion, 40 et 8 Voiture
135, International Woodworkers of
America and the Shelton chapter
of Parents Without Partners, of
which he was a former president.
He was preceded in death by
an infant brother, Edward Dion,
on October 29, 1927.
Survivors include his daugh-
ters, Michelle McMath of Boise,
Idaho, and Jan Petrie of Lacey;
son Terry Dion of Shelton; sister
Rosalie Anderson of Sandy, Utah;
eight grandchildren; seven great-
grandchildren; and numerous
nieces, nephews and cousins.
Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to
5 p.m. Thursday, December 6, at
McComb Funeral Home in Shel-
ton. A funeral service will be held
at 10 a.m. Friday, December 7, at
Hope Chapel, 421 West E Street
in Shelton. Pastor Michael Olels
will officiate.
Memorial donations may be
